The most effective teachers are those who pursue challenging learning opportunities for themselves. In my efforts to grow as a lifelong learner, I have sought opportunities to teach in international, rural, suburban and urban school systems. Most recently, I enjoyed two years of teaching in an accredited international school in Taiwan. I have instructed students from many cultural and ethnic backgrounds. My wife, who was born in Mexico, and I have traveled extensively and are comfortable with new environments that require flexibility and a sense of humor. That said, our desire now is to return to our Montana roots to raise our children. We want them to have a quality of life, near to nature, like we had growing up in Mineral County. I hope to teach and coach full time in a position that will allow me to inspire and encourage Montana children in the same way that my teachers inspired and encouraged me. My wife, Mindy, is also an experienced educator and coach (K-12 Spanish/Elementary Education) and will seek part-time employment after I have secured a position.

During my five years of teaching secondary mathematics, I have instructed levels 4, 6-8, and from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus and have tutored university students in Calculus. This past year in Taiwan I have served as the Physical Education teacher, grades 3-9, and as the Athletic Director for our K-9 school. I enjoy the challenge of motivating my students to reach their full potential. I strive to connect with each student on a personal level. It is essential that they know I care about them individually as well as academically.

Athletics is one avenue I utilize to build this rapport with my students and I have nine years of experience as a football and basketball coach. At present, I have one course remaining to complete my Health and Human Performance (Physical Education) minor at the University of Montana. I hope to complete this endorsement by August, 2005.

I have been described as a diligent worker, cooperative, confident and caring. My utmost priority as an educator is to be a positive influence in the lives of my students. I seek a position that will challenge me personally and professionally. I look forward to returning to my home state to give back to the communities that nurtured me.
